With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, and inspired by Hillary’s blog, I looked up Corned Beef and Cabbage, turns out it’s not (as I thought) an Irish dish at all; it’s Irish-American, but they were more into pork than beef in old Ireland.

So while Corned Beef is part of our Irish-American heritage; it’s purely a product of life on this side of the pond.

A traditional Irish meal? Bacon and fried cabbage. Yup.

  1. Yeah – I found out a while back that corned beef and cabbage isn’t a traditional irish dish. Have worked with a few native Irish. But apparently sheppard’s pie is an Irish dish – remember mom used to make that.
